Saturady was Brandon's first KickStart tournament, and he almost didn't get to compete. Everyone was supposed to take their uniforms home on Friday. Guess who forgot? Yep, Brandon. He was able to get up to his locker, but it wasn't there. It was sitting on a fire extinguisher outside the boys' bathroom, of all places. Crisis, and disqualification for his team, averted. At the gold belt level, they are not allowed to spar, only to perform the choreographed Kata, as a team or individuals. Brandon teamed with his friends Devon and Syed.
They did pretty well. They've been practicing in our driveway. The competition had teams from 20 or so schools, and was broken down into 3 sections of about 18 or so teams each. Brandon's team performed their Kata, and was called to perform it a second time to break a point tie for 3rd place. They lost that by .1 point, missing out on a bronze medal and a trip to the city championship. Still, not bad for their first tournament.
