Christmas in Kirby, Days 5 and 6: Jackson side trip
That first view of my beloved Tetons never gets old. My heart swells and it feels like coming home. Rick and I have always said that if we ever won the lottery we'd never tell a soul, but our families would figure it out when we bought a house with a Teton view. One of my new favorite pics. National Elk Refuge Every time we enter town from this end, Brandon asks why we don't gun it and climb the mountain. He couldn't quite get the question out without laughing this time. I guess he knew the clown car had no chance. Our visits to Jackson have a rhythm to them. We always stop at the Jackson Trading Company to look for a Bearfoot statue or ornament for my collection. We peruse the t-shirt shops. We think about getting an old time photo done. We always, always stop here: For amaretto fudge and taffy. And we always take pictures at the antler arches. (At town square, each corner entrance is an arch made of elk antlers).
At Christmas time they light up the antlers at night: The next morning it was starting to snow.
So after our quick stop in at the trading post (I seriously could have just boxed up the store and sent it home) we made the decision to skip Bubba's BBQ (another staple) and start heading back since the snow was picking up and we didn't know what to expect from the Clown Car on the pass. It was slow going, but not to bad and we made it back to Thermopolis/Kirby around 4pm and headed out to mom and dad's house for dinner.
