Since his birthday is today, we had a small party for Jacob last night. Nothing fancy schmancy, just dinner from McD's, water balloons (which Jacob loves to break with his mouth), presents and cake. It was just us and a friend of Brandon's. When Brandon and I went to the store earlier in the week looking for Clifford cake pan, we discovered that they don't even make one, so we just tried to look around to see what they had (in hindsight, it probably would have been a lot easier to cut out a picture of Clifford, run it through my laminator and stick it on a cake) and Brandon decided we HAD to have the castle cake set that has all the towers and turrets and windows and such that you attach to round or square stacked cakes. Yeah. It was about that much fun to make. We did the candy castle for Jacob's birthday and Brandon is fully expecting me to make the haunted castle at Halloween and the enchanted toyland castle at Christmas. Anyway, it turned out ok, especially since it was taken apart rather quickly (but not quickly enough for Jacob's taste). He got a delightful assortment of Barney videos, a Thomas computer game, an Elmo songbook, and a Bob the Builder remote control truck. And the best part was that he knew it was his birthday. He's been pointing to everything he wants and saying 'Birthday' and heading to the bakery to look at cakes as soon as we go to a store. (He also knows that Christmas is on the way, thanks in large part to Hobby Lobby putting their Christmas stuff out already) At the party supply store there was still no Clifford options, but he was happy to chose Blues Clues instead (and since everything Blues Clues was on clearance for $.50, I wasn't going to argue) and picked out items for his goody buckets.
