Rick, Brandon and I are fans of the Hunger Games book series and movie, so, since the movie was filmed close to the area we would be, we built a day into the itinerary to drive over to western North Carolina to Dupont State Park, where they filmed a couple of the arena scenes.
I bet the drive through Great Smokey Mountains National Park is really pretty in the fall, because there was really nothing but trees.
And lots of fog.

When he puts the camera up to your face and says "cheese!" you take a picture.
The two waterfalls we were going to see share the same parking lot, so first up it was a short hike to Hooker Falls.
Jacob was happy, thinking he was finally going to be getting to play in some water.
Rick said he had no fear and wanted to walk out into the falls.

Then, it was across the parking lot, across the highway, down some stairs, and then up a hill to get to Triple Falls, where, in the movie, Katniss tracks down Peeta, almost stepping on him.
On the way back, we found a little outlet for Jacob to go into the water for a little bit.
After that, it was a drive back through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park to Gatlinburg and dinner at Alamo Steakhouse (well, for everyone except Brooke, who refused to eat and held out for McDonalds, which cracked me up).
