The Arrow of Light Campout was this past weekend, just north of Houston at the Boy Scout Camp Strake site. We just went up late Saturday afternoon/evening, since Rick was in charge of the scout food drive in the morning (did you know that "food drive" actually means drive around for 3 1/2 hours picking up food donations because almost no one else did? And since the guy didn't get back to Rick with the information of where to actually take the food, I have a 4 foot tall pile of food covering an entire bedroom. If you're expecting something from me in the mail, don't expect it for another couple days.) Anyway, a couple of hours of Brandon running around with friends, Jacob leading mom around, Dad cooking, and Brandon providing birthday cupcakes for the pack. (As a side note, if you love frosting, get cupcake pull-apart cakes from Target. 2 inches of cupcake, 2 inch tall shmear of frosting. Yeah, I was doing some apologizing to parents for sugar loading their kids right before bed.) For dinner the dad of one of Brandon's friends brought Axis deer (an exotic deer shot on a game farm here in Texas). Very tasty. That's one of the best parts about camping--the guys cook and clean up. We drove home after the ceremony, since it was projected to rain and we had had a long day, so with that, our last campout of the scout year, we pack up our camping gear until fall, because we're wimps and don't camp when it gets hotter than 80 degrees out.
